Directed By: Jon Watts

Directing – 9

Jon Watts directs this movie well. He does a much better job with this film than the previous two installments. I love some of the choices he made, even though there are choices I don’t always agree with; however, his direction is much better in this film. I also appreciate some of the risks this film took.

Cineamtography – 10

The cinematography does its job of helping with telling the story.

Score – 10

Michael Giacchino’s score for the film is great. He continues to show that he is an incredibly underrated composer.

Story – 8

The story follows Peter Parker as his identity is revealed to the world that he is Spider-Man. I appreciated how this film took a lot more risks than the two previous installments. While I was a fan of both ‘Far From Home’ and ‘Homecoming’, those films can feel a little safe. This film goes a little darker and makes Peter suffer a lot more than those films did. I think there is a false criticism of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, that he is never dealt with many consequences. I believe he has had to deal with consequences, just not to the level that this film put him through. He had to suffer a lot in this film and he lost a lot overall. It does a good job reminding us that there is a lot of pain, suffering, and loss that comes with being Spider-Man. As for negatives, mainly the comedy. Some characters, such as Lizard, and Electro felt a bit more comedic than before. Other than that, I think the story did its job.

Acting – 10

While everyone does their job well. Tom Holland, Willem Dafoe, Alfred Molina are the standouts.

MASSIVE SPOILERS!

Andrew Garfield is also a standout.

Post-Production – 8

Some of the editing in the film can seem a bit off at times. Also, some of the CGI is a bit suspect. For example, Doc Ock’s hands don’t look feel as fluid as they did in Spider-Man 2.

Entertainment – 9

While there are some issues, I do have. I think the film is incredibly entertaining. I will watch this movie a million more times in the future.

Final Rating

9.2/10 – Pretty Good Superhero FIlm!
