Directed By: Doug Liman
Directing – 9
Liman’s direction for the film was excellent. The setup, the payoff, etc. I will say the first time Bill Cage wakes up for his time loop felt a little rushed. He started to remember almost everything that went through his day, and it felt a little odd. I also thought the ending was a little abrupt. It could have had an extra scene or two. The film as a whole was great.
Cinematography – 10
The cinematography was very immersive. It was great.
Score – 10
The score was pretty good.
Story – 9
The story follows Bill Cage as he is forced to fight in the war against alien hostile forces. He then begins waking up and reliving the same day over and over again. Now he must figure out how to win the war within this time loop. Most time loop stories haven’t worked for me. They aren’t necessarily bad movies they just always feel a bit wasted, or not executed entirely to their peak potential. This movie however was different. I loved almost everything about this film. It had more minor issues that I felt could have been different. Regardless, I thought the story was really good, and I felt the time loop element added an extra bit of suspense. It was also handled extremely well, and it was really effective. I loved how the story was set up and how it paid off. Overall, I thought the story was great.
Acting – 10
The acting was great everyone did well with their characters.
Post-Production – 8
Post-Production was fine. There were many instances where the special effects looked like effects. That would be it, in terms of negatives with the post.
Entertainment – 9
Finally, I thought almost everything about the film was great. I recommend it. I feel this is a movie almost anyone can enjoy. The only people I can see not liking this film are those that don’t like action films or Sci-Fi films. Regardless, everyone should check this out if they haven’t already.
