Directed By: Stuart Baird

Directing – 7

Baird’s direction for the film is solid. It’s not amazing, but it’s not terrible either. There are some choices he makes where he does a good job, and there are some choices where I felt some things could have been different.

Cinematography – 8

The cinematography is overall solid. Nothing spectacular, but nothing terrible.

Score – 10

The score overall for the film is great. Star Trek films don’t tend to disappoint when it comes to musical scores.

Story – 7

The story follows Jean-Luc Picard as he and his crew must go confront the Romulans, with attempts to create a Peace Treaty. Along his journey. he meets Shinzon, a clone of himself who seems to be up to no good. Now Picard and his crew must battle Shinzon and his crew before he can finish his “mission”. The story overall was fine, nothing special. I do think this film is good, nothing mind-blowing. The film thrives when it has many confrontations with Jean Luc and Shinzon. They are both mirror opposites of each other. Both are similar, yet so different from one another. Jean Luc is good while Shinzon is the evil version of himself, if. he didn’t become the noble leader he is. It also has many ways of looking at how people who may have sinister intentions are born from. Shinzon didn’t have an easy life, he was basically an experiment and then when they didn’t need him he was left for dead. You may not like him because he is evil, but you can very much understand why he is like this. There is even a conversation between Jean Luc and Shinzon that basically they explain to each other, “If you had my life, you would understand, or you wouldn’t be who you are today.”

Acting – 10

The acting overall is pretty good. The standouts are Tom Hardy and Patrick Stewart.

Post-Production – 7

The editing as times for some of the battle scenes could have been handled a little better, also the effects tend to look very much like they were from a video game as the film goes on.

Entertainment – 7

Overall, I found the film to be quite enjoyable. I do think that the film might have a bad rep, but overall, I think it’s fine.

Final Rating

7.8/10 – Solid Star Trek film.
