Directed By: Craig Gillespie
Directing – 7
The direction for this film was solid. I think that the film is paced pretty well. I think he did a nice job at making the film feel unique compared to many other films out there. I also think that there are moments where it slightly drags, and also there are times where I feel we abrupt changes in how characters act and I felt we could have extended that. Also, the ending is a bit strange when you start putting some pieces of the puzzle together. I will say, there are times where they try to push the boundaries with the quirkiness and distinctiveness and that could have been toned down a little. Overall, the directing is solid.
Cinematography – 10
The cinematography is pretty good. I love the lighting and the camera movements done throughout.
Score – 10
The score was pretty good. I really appreciated the score in the film.
Story – 7
The story follows Cruella De Vil’s origin story and how she eventually becomes this very deranged and evil being. The story was solid, I think the problem at times was there were some parts where Cruella acts a certain way, and in the very next scene she is a completely different person and I felt that could have been explored a little longer. Also, the ending could have used a little work. The story was overall solid.
Acting – 8
The acting is pretty great. Emma Stone and Emma Thompson were the standouts in this film. I will say one actor felt mis-casted, he wasn’t bad, just mis-casted. Also, there is a time where they try to get a little too quirky with the acting and it could have been a little bit calmed down.
Post-Production – 9
The color graining was great, the editing was overall fine. I will say there may have been moments cut out and I would have loved to see those deleted scenes if any.
Entertainment – 8
Overall, the movie was pretty solid. I enjoyed it, I did have some issues, but I left pretty satisfied with the picture as a whole.
Final Rating
8.4/10 – Good film.
