Directed By: Stefano Sollima

Directing – 4

Stefano directs this movie a little poorly. I thought that my review would be a little bit more open, but unfortunately, his movie overall isn’t that great. The film is a tad messy, there is a good portion of unnecessary, scenes, moments, lines, etc. There are some good things the pacing is nice, and some, shots, scenes, and moments are cool. However, the movie itself is just a little messy and quite bizarre, not in a good way.

Cinematography – 8

I think the cinematography is good. I think it works well for the film, I do think there are shots that could have been executed a little better, however.

Score – 8

I think the score is good, just doesn’t always fit some scenes or moments.

Story – 3

The story follows John Kelly a man whose wife is expecting. One night a squadron breaks into his house, they later assassinate Kelly’s wife and the child she was carrying. John Kelly then decides to figure out who was responsible and bring them to justice. The story is whatever. My biggest complaints really are the peculiar moments within the film: (SPOILERS) For example, John burns a car and just approches the car, opens the door while the car is in flames, an officer gives him alcohol and says, “It’s an order to drink”, the final assassin straight up leaves John’s house after not killing him, even though he and his men killed John’s whole team earlier, John straight up pours alcohol on himself, the first scene a guy gets shoot while the other soldier who shot the bullet was in the water and straight-up hits him outside the water, like wtf…Some scenes, lines, moments, sequences are written for some reason. There’s even an action that was written towards around the midpoint of the film, it serves no purpose for the overall story. There’s many things that were written that served no real purpose for the overall narrative. Many characters I don’t really care for, a few were solid. Some of the dialogue is iffy, Etc. Also, (SPOILERS) It is revealed that the USA and Russia are trying to start a war, but why? We got somewhat of an explanation, but it seemed a bit lazy, I suppose.

Acting – 8

The acting is fine. There are times where it does seem a bit off, but it’s fine for the most part.

Post-Production -7

The editing is off at times, there are so many unnecessary scenes and moments spread out in the film.

Entertainment – 5

The film is entertaining, I suppose. However, many moments and things I noticed took me out of the experience and just made me keep asking: What purpose does this have in the story? The film did have some good moments, but there was a good portion of unnecessary scenes, moments, lines, etc…Is this movie the worst movie ever? No. However, it does have some qualities that make the film extremely poor. Around the second half of the film, I was hoping the pacing would go by fast, so the movie would end soon. Overall, the film was whatever. I didn’t hate the film, I just don’t think it was particularly good.

Final Rating

5.6/10 – Not so great action film.
