Season 1

Various Directors

Directing – 9

I think the direction the many directors took the series was good. I really liked how it was character focused and that it didn’t reveal everything all at once. It took it’s time to really capture our suspense and anticipation for where the show was going next. I also thought the pacing was good, I felt interested and also I liked how each episode set up the next episode giving us more anticipation for what was to come. I will say there is a side love story that felt whatever, and I could have been without it personally.

Cinematography – 10

The cinematography is good. I liked the way the show looked visually overall.

Score – 10

The score was great overall.

Story – 8

The story follows Mark Grayson as he gets his powers and has to learn to better with his powers and become a superhero. Thought out the show he is put in many obstacles that test him on whether he can become a proper hero or not. (SPOILERS). Whether it be watching innocent people die, sacrifice his own personal life, if he is good enough to be a great hero, etc. Being a superhero isn’t easy for him he has to make choices he may not entirely want to and it comes with a lot of heavy burdens and and many sacrifices along the way. I also like how the other characters get focus as well, almost everyone that has a good amount of time within the show is given a decent amount of character development, we understand the goals and motivation for everyone. (SPOILERS): Omni-Man is a great villain and he is very condescending and extremely dangerous. We get a good reason for why he does the things he does, we don’t justify his actions, but understand him a bit more. He’s still evil, nonetheless. I will say there is a love triangle between Mark, Amber and Eve and it is a little tragic. Deep down I believe Eve and Mark should be together, but Mark is with Amber and yet he has all this hero stuff he needs to take care and it his hard to schedule his time with her. That is why I think Mark should be with Eve because they are both heroes, they both seem to have an interest for one another, and I believe they both truly understand each other’s lifestyle and sacrifices, etc. Hopefully, we get them together in one of the future seasons. I will say there is another love story that I’m kind of not entirely the fondest of, it is Robot and Monster Girl. I very much understand as to why. Both don’t struggle to find love because both are at a disadvantage, but I felt that Robot revealing he was a fetus type of creature was ehh, also I loved Zachary Quinto, so much in the role that it had to change into another actor when he finally got his human form, so it didn’t make me that happy. Also, there is this Demon character and he gets sent back to hell, and I felt we could have used his help, but I guess not. Hopefully we see him again in future seasons. Regardless, this was a good story and a pretty good show.

Acting – 10

The talent is stacked for this show Steven Yeun, J.K. Simmons, Mark Hamill, Sandra Oh, Zazie Beetz, Walton Goggins, Zachary Quinto, etc. Everyone plays their characters well, I was really in awe with the casting choices, they all did incredibly well.

Post-Production – 10

Post-Production was good, the editing was good and the animation was phenomenal.

Entertainment – 9

The entertainment value for the show was good. I liked the show overall. Besides the Robot and Monster Girl love story, everything else was good. I will say I didn’t hate their love story, it’s just I preferred and cared more the other parts of the show. Overall, this is a good first Season, I can’t wait to see what they have in store for the future seasons.

Final Rating

9.2/10 – Pretty good animated show!
