Directed By: Russo Brothers
Directing – 10
The Russo’s do an amazing job at crafting this film, it is done exquisitely and incredibly well. I think that they did a great job at telling this story and putting pretty much a period to the end of this phase in Marvel.
Cinematography – 10
The cinematography is beautiful and really well done. I do think that the lighting for many scenes is just excellent, some shots in the film are awesome. For example, (SPOILERS), when Tony is recording a message for Pepper in space the scene just looks awesome.
Score – 10
The score just doesn’t disappoint, it does it’s job as well.
Story – 10
The story follows the remaining Avengers and Guardians from the previous film as they try to figure out how to fix the damage that was done by bringing those that vanished due to Thanos’s snap. As a fan of Marvel and as a fan of movies/cinema in general, It kind of makes me a little upset when people consider Marvel films, “Mindless Entertainment”, or “not real cinema or whatever.” This film proves that Marvel is more than just entertainment flicks, this is a film with a story to tell and build off of from the previous installment. The story is just incredible, a lot of the first hour of the film is a lot of build up, the creators and writers really took their time in making this movie, they really had a lot of patience when it came to writing this story. I also love some things that took very unexpected turns. The first time I saw the film, I was a bit curious and invested in where we were going and what places the filmmakers were going to take us to. I also very much love the amazing character moments and development we get from the main characters. A lot of people say Infinity War is a better film, I love Infinity War as well as this film, but this film just leveled up in terms of amazing character development with our heroes, and the way the film plays out overall. This film is written marvelously and I believe it is amazing, and I will say it is better than Infinity War. I said it before, but yes the filmmakers/storytellers patience was just amazing, I love how the creators didn’t try to rush the action and they really made every moment count. The film also explores possible themes such as Grief, Loss, Sacrifice, Fear of moving forward, Acceptance is not that easy, Our past doesn’t determine our future, Our mistakes don’t define us, Second chances, etc. (SPOILERS) Also, I really love pretty much the entire film. A ton of people say other MCU films are better because this film tends to not be the greatest in terms of pacing. I actually believe the slow pacing in the film works perfectly. It doesn’t rush, it doesn’t just get us to the action because we need action, it takes its time to tell its story and it makes the overall payoff satisfying. I also think the time travel section of the film was awesome, it was really cool to see past events from a different perspective within that story, and some things within those films that we may have missed, etc. But going back to the character moments and development it was awesome, and I just remember watching some scenes and was just like, Yes! That’s part of what makes this movie fantastic. (SPOILERS) There’s a scene where Natasha and Clint are on Vormir and they have just learned that one of them will have to sacrifice themself, in order to attain the soul stone. Them talking about why each of them should be the one was just awesome and amazing character work and brilliant writing, Clint thinking that the loss of his family led him down a dark path and he needs to make this right, while Nat wants to sacrifice herself because she says, the Avengers are her only family and she wants to sacrifice herself to hopefully save everyone that disappeared and even help her family and hopefully try to get everyone back. Just amazing, amazing writing. There are many other character moments such as Tony saying a goodbye to Pepper on the ship, Steve and Nat talking about how they are holding up in this life, etc. Also, many people will say this film has a ton of fan service and that it is just fanservice galore and not much. I will retort that by saying, this film does have fan service, but the MCU build up of an 11 year arc that led to this certain moment and everything happened because of the build up that made for an amazing and satisfying climax. I think it was great to put a period on the arcs of Steve Rogers/Captain America and Tony’s Stark’s/Iron Man. Tony started off a man who was just purely arrogant, selfish, and mainly self absorbed, who ended up sacrificing everything: His family, and his life in order to save the universe. While Steve started off as a man who wanted to join the army and wanted to stop bullies who was a man purely unselfish and willing to risk everything in order for the safety of everybody else. He put himself in this life and ended up getting the life he wanted taken away from him. He got to the end by going back in time, being with the love of his life and having a little selfishness, but getting the ultimate life he deserved and desired. Also, Black Widow who ended up sacrificing herself for Clint to get the Soul Stone and bring everybody who turned into dust back. Overall, this is a great and possible farewell to some of our favorite characters, and overall a great end to the Infinity Saga, and possibly one of the greatest Superhero films ever made!
Acting – 10
The acting is incredible. Everyone plays their characters extremely well. The cast and talent is off the charts, everyone does a great job at playing their characters.
Post-Production – 10
The post-production for this film is also done extremely well, the effects and editing is done nicely as well.
Entertainment – 10
This movie for being an amazing story, is incredibly investing and entertaining overall. A lot of people say this film feels slow at times, I very much disagree, I think the pacing is done nicely. This film is an incredible ending to the infinity saga, I think it is nice ending for a few of characters and the arcs they have been given, I think the story is just overall beautifully written, an overall a great film. This is ARGUABLY the best Marvel film, and it does have a right to be in the conversation for one of the best superhero films ever.
