Directed By: John Lee Hancock

Directing – 6

Hancock’s direction for this film was decent. The film is a little rushed in the beginning and then drags a little later on. Also, some choices of music for some scenes didn’t always work, and some choices of framing were a bit odd, and it felt some choices overall could’ve been much better.

Cinematography – 9

The cinematography for this film is really good, it captures the environment and tone nicely; However, some framing choices were a bit odd.

Score – 7

The score was okay, some choices of music for some scenes do not always work, and some times it can have some repetition and there are a few moments where they were from other films.

Story – 6

The story was alright. It follows two men played by Denzel Washington and Rami Malek and they are trying to find the killer of the myserteous murders that have occurred in their local area, while the investigation is going on it brings back haunting and traumatic memories of Denzel Washington’ character. The film in the beginning is a little rushed, and then later on it drags at times. Also, there was some choices throughout the film where it almost felt like the writers didn’t necessarily have a plan B. Like maybe more thought could’ve been made for some story choices. A lot of the dialogue didn’t bother me, but it can be a little iffy.

Acting – 10

The acting is really good, possibly the best part of the film. Denzel, Malek and Leto are all excellent in the film.

Post-Production – 7

For post, the problem I had were some editing choices here and there. There’s actually one moment I do remember that the same shot was placed in the film, then they cut too soon, only for two shots later to be that exact same shot just a little longer. It felt like maybe the filmmakers forgot to edit that out. Also, some choices of music are kind of odd and they end a bit abruptly. The music wasn’t terrible or anything of that matter it just felt out of the blue and ended unexpectedly, like if someone were to snap their fingers.

Entertainment – 7

The film overall, was entertaining. The first half is quite rushed and then as the film advances the pacing for the film slows down. I will say the last 45 minutes of this movie, in my personal opinion, are actually pretty good, extremely enthralling and riveting. I do think this film gets a little too much hate, but it’s by no means an amazing movie.

Final Rating

7/10 – Okay Film.
