Directed By: Tim Story
Directing – 3
Tim Story’s direction for this movie is not good really. There are maybe a few things that do work, also the structure for the film is done fairly well. However, the movie itself just is laughable because of the absurdity that this movie tries to be. Also, the film does get kind of boring toward the end.
Cinematography – 4
The framing for a lot of scenes are just very strange. There are some shots that are fine, but there are good variety that are just to at least give a somewhat visual representation of the film, I suppose.
Score – 5
I don’t there is really a score, it’s just a bunch of music, that honestly get cut pretty abruptly and the music is nice to listen to or bop your head to, but I think they really do much for the story other than just to maybe bop ones head to.
Story – 3
The story is actually kind of awful. Nothing really makes sense, a lot of the humor, moments, and even a good portion of the dialogue is incredibly just downright cringeworthy. Some moments honestly feel like they belong in a Disney XD show.
Acting – 6
The acting is fine. I think the actors do a decent job. However, because the dialogue and humor isn’t that great the acting just doesn’t always work. Also, there are a couple characters in the film that are just like what???? Also, Michael Peña’s character is trying to make this more stereotypical Hispanic voice.
Post-Production – 4
For post, the color grading is kind of absent, it just feels like it was shot with expensive equipment and no real added or polished color in post. Also, when you have real live action characters mixed with cartoons it’s just going to be pretty odd, and this isn’t just Tom and Jerry, I believe it is like the whole Tom and Jerry universe that is in this film.
Entertainment – 6
Was this film entertaining? I mean yeah; However, a lot of the film is just incredibly horrendous, that leaves me in utter confusion. I will say this, I’m a fan of big studios and blockbuster cinema. I will also add that whenever studios put out movies like this it makes me just question why??? There are many great filmmakers out there with many news stories and ideas to tell, but instead some Hollywood studio decides to make “Tom and Jerry: The Movie”, that has a solid cast, with terrible writing, that consists of cringe worthy dialogue, and scenes that don’t make sense. It blows my mind that studios decide to put their money into movies like these, when there are filmmakers who can make better quality content for cheaper. Like if one is going to revisit some ideas at least make it good. Like Marvel for example, they have all the money in the world, but they at least make good movies and that can still tell stories.
Final Rating
4.2/10 – Not Good.
