Directed By: Richard Marquand
Directing – 8
Marquand’s direction for this film was good. The pacing was great and it’s structured incredible well and the scenes are placed at the perfect times. However, there are a few negatives with his direction there were a few things that could’ve been changed.
Cinematography – 10
The cinematography for this film is superb, the Star Wars films don’t get much credit for their cinematography, and for this film is brilliant especially (SLIGHT SPOILER) Luke standing in front of the fire at the end of the film or the shots when Luke, Vader and The Emperor are in the Death Star Star thrown room.
Score – 10
John William’s score is great as always, he can’t do no wrong when it comes to the score, and he definitely elevates the film with his incredible score.
Story – 10
The story is really good, it’s structured extremely well. It does a great job at exploring and adding to the Star Wars universe as a whole. There is also some great possible messages within this film: fighting against overwhelming odds, friendship and family are extremely important, sacrificing oneself to save those you love, struggling to make difficult choices, choosing good over evil, searching to help or search for good in those that maybe lost, etc. I will say there are nitpicks with some story elements, but the story is still really good.
Acting – 10
The acting is just great, it can come off as cheesy to some, but the actors play their characters well and its hard to picture other actors playing these wonderful characters.
Post-Production – 9
From a post-production standpoint there are some scenes that one can argue the effects don’t work. But because of its time period, it’s likely to happen. There are lots of great editing and special effects throughout the film, there are just minor nitpicks hopefully some can move past.
Entertainment – 10
From an entertainment perspective this film is excellent. The film I don’t believe was boring, the film works incredibly well, and is one of my favorite movies, I will never get tired of this film. I may get into SPOILERS, so this is just a warning. The reason why this film is possibly one of my favorite STAR WARS films and possibly one of my favorite films ever, is satisfaction of Luke Skywalker being able to become an awesome, cool, badass Jedi Knight! I love Luke and I really hope Disney explores more of his character after the events The Return Of The Jedi before the sequel trilogy I would very much love to see Luke more as a Jedi because that is incredible awesome and just damn satisfying. Yes, I do like and understand his portrayal in The Last Jedi, but I would love to see more of him as the Luke Skywalker as a Jedi Knight around his years leading up to the events after The Last Jedi.
Final Rating
9.4/10 – Great Film! Great Star Wars Film!
