Directed By: Antoine Fuqua
Directing – 9
Fuqua’s direction for this film was great. The pacing for the film was really good, no boring scenes, this movie started off just a fun buddy cop film and turned into a dark crime thriller. I do think there were a couple shots that weren’t necessarily needed, but that’s my only flaw with the direction.
Cinematography – 9
The cinematography was good, it was very dirty and nasty, sticking the vibe that this film isn’t funny or happy, shows that this place is a very dark world. I would say a couple times the lighting could’ve been a little better, but in terms of the cinematography thats my only negative.
Score – 10
The score for this film is really good, I think that it fits with the correct scenes.
Story – 9
The story is really good, it follows a rookie cop and a corrupt experienced cop and their day of duty. I love the conflict between Alonzo and Jake they both have different views of being police officers, Jake wants to be a cop to stop crime, while Alonzo takes it up a notch by acting more like a criminal than an actual cop. One slight negative I will say, is there are a couple times where I think if even anyone in the field found out about Alonzo and how he approaches being a a police officer, he’d get fired right away. I would say there’s a negative involving Ethan Hawke’s character later on in the movie, but I actually wanted that to happen, so I’ll allow it.
Acting – 10
Ethan Hawke is really good in this movie, and Denzel Washington gives an amazing performances and made me hate his character so much.
Post-Production – 9
I did like the editing, I do know that the movie was trying to be little more nasty with the colors, but I felt they could’ve been a little better with the colors for a few scenes.
Entertainment – 9
I was very entertained by the film, I really enjoyed it there were a couple moments where I was bit like Questioning some decisions, by a few characters, but for the most part. But for the most part, I really enjoyed it.
Final Rating
9.2/10 – Really Good Film.
