Directed By: George Lucas

Directing – 10

Lucas’s direction with this film was incredible with everything he was able to accomplish at the time. The film remains timeless, it is way ahead of its time and his direction is near flawless with this film. There is one scene however, with the version I saw at least, that we didn’t necessarily need the scene, but it could help some viewers and its not a bad scene, so it’s nothing game changing, but the film didn’t need it, but I’ll allow it.

Cinematography – 10

The cinematography looks beautiful, it looks great, especially a few shots that may arguably be considered some of best shots in cinema history.

Score – 10

John Williams just can’t produce a bad score, and he does amazing with the score for this film, it’s incredible what Williams produced for this film. His score for the whole Star Wars saga along with other film is just iconic.

Story – 10

The story is incredible, it is about Luke Skywalker leaving his home and beginning his journey into becoming a Jedi, and the fight against the evil which is the Galactic Empire. It may have the hero’s journey simple story, but it works extremely well, and it’s awesome. The film does have a good amount of simplicity, but works extremely effectively a young man who is a farm boy goes on this journey to find himself and to become a strong and powerful Jedi, that is something that I believe that is something we can all relate to. I’m sure many of Star Wars fans have wanted to become a Jedi, or a force wielder of some kind, and have and be able to use a lightsaber and fight alongside our heroes, and/or fight against the forces of evil. Star Wars is a dream for many people who have wanted to travel to travel and explore the many different worlds and planets, etc. Who may have wanted to fly an X-Wing, Millennium Falcon or maybe even a Tie Fighter, etc. If I were to ask many Star Wars fans this question, Have you ever wanted to be a Jedi or Luke Skywalker? I’m sure many would say, “Yes!” These many stories have made people fall in love with the world, characters, and universe as a whole. The script remains timeless and ahead of its time by mentioning some lines here and there that may click when one really delves into the Star Wars universe as a whole, it may be a simple story, but it works extremely effective.

Acting – 10

I’ve heard people say the acting for this film is cheesy and I disagree the acting is great and it works extremely well with the film everyone gives a great performance: Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Alec Guinness, etc.

Post-Production

One will definitely look at the film and say some things may not always work or age well and I can blame many that believes so, but also this movie came out in 1977 the technology wasn’t all that advanced yet. Some things may or may not always work for some people, but for what they were able to accomplish is extraordinary. There are still some shots and scenes where some may be in total awe that it was a film that came out in the 70s.

Entertainment – 10

It may be slow at times depending on the viewer, but the story is investing and once the adventure kicks off then the film just streams along and its awesome. The story may not be crazy if a new viewer saw the film today, but its simplicity made the film what it is. It also started and created this beautiful and adventurous world of Star Wars and remains timeless today and consider by many, me included, a classic. Are there flaws? Yeah, but for what the film is and the time it was released, its pretty near perfect. The film is timeless and I could go on forever on why this film is a classic, but I believe one should watch it and maybe see how it inspires many movies or stories that you may have seen or read today.

Final Rating

10/10 – Must Watch! Classic!
