Directed By: Bong Joon-Ho

Directing – 10

The direction for this film was excellent, it nearly perfectly setups the film and how it plays out. The pacing is really good, at first, I was questioning where is this film going to go, then it makes some strange U-Turns and makes the rest of the film play out well.

Cinematography – 10

The cinematography was impeccable, the film was beautiful and gorgeous. It looks incredible, from the streets, the houses, the car scenes, etc. Every scene looks pretty much stunning.

Score – 10

The score was great, it pretty much was perfect for each scene, and it definitely worked.

Story – 9

The story itself was amazing, it at times feels like a South Korean “Ocean’s Eleven”, but instead of a heist crew of professionals, it’s with a family from the bottom trying to help themselves to gamble their way to the top. At times, one can say there are some nitpicks throughout the film, and some things one needs to accept for things in a way play out the way they do. Which for the most part I can push aside to enjoy the film, there were a couple decisions that do make the film end in some U-Turns. There were a couple decisions I was not entirely sure about. Other than that the film was great, maybe after a few watches my perspective/view could change.

Acting – 10

The acting was great, I thought the acting was amazing and I thought the performances were awesome.

Post-Production – 10

Post-production of this film was great as well, the editing works extremely well especially which is really needed for the film to play out the way they do.

Entertainment – 10

The film for me had great enjoyment value, during the first 20 minutes I bit unsure and a little curious to see where the film was going to go, and it plays out well. Other than a couple decisions I wasn’t a huge fan of, the film itself was great. I feel if I watch this a few times, it may get better, who knows. It may take a few watches to pick up on things I missed, and to maybe understand the decisions I wasn’t a big fan of. Other than that, it’s great. Not sure if it’s a masterpiece, but it may be.

Final Rating

9.8/10 – Must Watch! Maybe a Classic!
