Directed By: James Mangold
Directing – 9
The pacing was really good. The film told its story, and was very entertaining. There were maybe a couple scenes where, as a director, I’d think twice about maybe wanting those scenes in the film, if not maybe told differently. Other than that James Mangold did a great job directing this film.
Cinematography – 9
The cinematography was good, the framing and shot selection did allow a sense of realism for pretty much every scene in the film.
Score – 7
The score was fine, I can’t honestly remember it’s overall affect. It didn’t feel memorable.
Story – 8
The story was good, it does have some elements of other sports drama’s and it can come across as predictable. Also, a lot of the film is very believable for the most part. There are a few decisions that I discussed in the direction category, where maybe a couple scenes could’ve been told differently. Other than that, the story is pretty good.
Acting – 10
Everyone’s performances are good. Also, when the leads are Christian Bale and Matt Damon, you can’t go wrong for the most part.
Post – Production – 10
The editing itself is something incredible, it enhanced the driving scenes a lot. That’s something great because you want to be able to feel the intensity of those scenes
Entertainment Value – 10
It was very entertaining from beginning to end. There wasn’t a dragging moment at all per se. This film will probably make you have many different emotions. Whether it be happiness, or even sadness, you may even laugh a few times. Overall, this film is great, it’s definitely entertaining, it tells a great story, the acting is amazing, the direction is good. Regardless, of a couple scenes that could’ve been maybe help tell the story in a different way. Other than that, Ford V. Ferrari is pretty good.
